If you don’t love it, you won’t feel it. If you don’t feel it, neither will they.
This is a truth I have experienced too many times in the past 50 years as a professional musician. For me, the solution was to try to choose songs we all love.
But it raises the question: Are we selling out our artistic passion for temporary love? This is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves. And there is no blanket answer. The answer is as unique as the artist and the music.
What I have learned is this: Whether it is a riff, or a song, or a lyric, or a crowd, or an instrument…
Make sure love is a part of it.
